Finally, Things Fall Apart, the story of Okonkwo, adheres to the model of a classic Greek tragedy in that it has a final katharsis, or “tragic representation of suffering and defeat that leaves an audience feeling, not depressed, but relieved and even elevated,” (Greek tragedy and tragic hero explanation sheet). Things Fall Apart’s katharsis, or emotional relief came when Okonkwo killed.
Okonkwo, the protagonist of Chinua Achebe's 1958 masterpiece, Things Fall Apart, faces the exact same predicament. Okonkwo is the leader and strong man of the Igbo, a Nigerian ethnic community.

In Things Fall Apart, a novel by Chinua Achebe, Okonkwo is described as a negative person; however, he does posses other admirable characteristics that make him a village hero. Throughout the book he has proved to be a strong leader. Okonkwo is a strong man and in fact he is the village wrestling champion.
