First-year essay prompts - Common Application.
The Common Application has just announced that the essay prompts will be the same as those used in 2019-2020. Every cycle, the Common App offers six prompts that students can use to brainstorm great essay topics. There is also a seventh prompt to write on any topic of your choosing.
While the Common App provides highly broad topics for its required 650-word essay, it’s possible that you have a story you want to narrate that doesn’t fit within those categories. Fortunately, the Common App is reintroducing the “topic of choice” category for the 2017-2018 admissions season.
The Common Application keeps a-changing! This admissions season we have both a new word limit (650, increased from 500) and new question choices. Here are the questions you will be asked to choose from if you are applying to college this fall.

Common Application Essay Prompts for 2013-2014 The 2013-14 essay prompts for the Common Application, used by 488 colleges, have been announced. There will no longer be a topic of your own choice. The word limit will be enforced and will be limited to between 250 and 650 words. The essay instructions and prompts are as follows.
Don’t repeat ANYTHING when it comes to your essay topics. The common application is not the only essay you need to write. In fact, you will likely have a baseline of 2-3 more essays you will work and rework to fit the supplemental essays required of each school.
The Common Application asks that you write one essay on one of six topics that change often. So your older brother may be able to score you an illegal beverage or two, but his old essay will do you no good.
